Mainstreet Lighting Program

Mayfield Mainstreet has installed and also maintains and pays for the under awning lights that are located along the main shopping section of the street. The Committee has started a lighting program for the East and West shopping precincts with installation expected in August / September 2010. The lighting program has reduced significantly the incidences of malicious damage and unsavoury behaviours along the Mainstreet, leaving local businesses without the morning mess to clean up as the street is lit up and safe on an evening to the early hours.

 Street Clean Coordinator

Mayfield Mainstreet is proud to boast the cleanest bins and street seats in the Newcastle LGA. This is due to the initative of the Mayfield Mainstreet Committee using the services of a Clean Street Coordinator. This service has been available to the committee over a period of 5 years and the overall street appearance looks clean and inviting. The Clean Street Coordinator also removes tagging and graffiti – go to Business Assistance for more information

Greening & Pots

Over the last 5 years the committee has funding a green street initative, working with local businesses and the community to add over 100 pots along the long and busy Mainstreet of Mayfield. In 2005 our community told the Mainstreet committee that it felt the street needed to be “greener” and the Committee has listened. The Committee has worked with local businesses who have street gardens that where once, cigarette butt ridden, and turned them into colourful and bright gardens. The Committee also looks after the Pots and the Figs and works with local gardeners to ensure the figs are healthy with colour in the pots and add to the overall amenity of the Mainstreet precinct. The Committee works with the Pride of Place Committee and thanks Lisa Scully – City Presentation Services for her support with plants and watering cans.

Street Furniture

The Committee has embarked with assistance from City Presentation Services on a bin replacement program, working with Council to replace old bins that have been on the street for over 10 years with brand new bins. This will assist Council to create a more uniformed approach to bin maintenance and service. The bins are larger, sturdier and have an inbuilt cigarette butt as well!
